Pennsylvania and West Virgina Rivers

Build your skills in real-life conditions with multiple days of low-ratio coaching. Based in  Ohiopyle, PA there are opportunities for a variety of skills development. premier whitewater rivers within an easy day’s drive from Michigan.    This learning trip will help you hone your river running and playing skills on Class 2 and Class 3 rapids of the Yough and other nearby rivers.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Our low student-coach ratios allow us to embrace the environment offering challenges that are accessible and fun. Some skills we might focus on include eddy turns, peel-outs, ferries, surfing, river running strategies, river safety, and rescues.

Fall 2023 | $950

This skills development course is designed for paddlers looking to build solid river running and safety abilities in Class 2 whitewater and those wanting to gain the confidence to run Class 3. We’ll choose from a variety of rivers based on the needs of the group and local water levels. 

Double occupancy lodging, breakfast, and three dinners will be provided.  Demo boats and paddles are also available.

What to Expect

The Youghiogheny  River, commonly referred to as just “The Yough” (pronounced “Yock”) in southwest Pennsylvania is one of the premier whitewater rivers within an easy day’s drive from Michigan.    This learning trip will help you hone your river running and playing skills on the Class 2 and Class 3 rapids of the Yough and other nearby rivers.

Our two summer Yough trips include camping and no food but for the Yough Fall Colors trip we are providing lodging in a rental home with 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners. Trip costs also include mandatory river usage and shuttle fees.

Possible itinerary:
House is available after 4pm Wednesday for those staying with us.

Day 1 meet at 10am for a warm up session on either the Cheat Narrows, the Yough, or Slip.
Day 2 – Full Lower or other choice (Middle, Stony, Slip, Casselman, Cheat)
Day 3 – Full Lower or other choice
Day 4 – Loop (early afternoon departure for home)

Paddlers should have some experience in Class 2 whitewater but need not have any prior Class 3 experience.

ACA Assessment

There is an option for an ACA Skills Assessment during the Fall Colors Whitewater Trip.  Skills assessments are a great way to measure your development as a whitewater paddler.
