The British Canoeing (BC) 3 Star Sea Assessment (rebranded for 2019 as the Sea Kayak Award) is a fun day of paddling on open water. Candidates are assessed on their personal paddling skills as part of a led group. Competence in handling your kayak in conditions (winds up to Force 3 and sea state 3), rescues in open water and towing other members of the group are all part of the BC 3 Star Sea Assessment. While attendance at a BC 3 Star Sea Training is not a prerequisite, it is extremely helpful in identifying areas that may need some additional practice. It can also help in clarifying where the standard lies. A BC 3 Star Sea Training is scheduled immediately prior to this assessment. BC 3 Star Assessment at Great Lakes Sea Kayak Symposium
