The whitewater weekend is designed for newer whitewater kayakers or those that haven’t had much formal training. We will choose from several Pennsylvania whitewater rivers depending on water levels and needs of the group.
The Youghiogheny River, commonly referred to as just “The Yough” (pronounced “Yock”) in southwest Pennsylvania is one of the premier whitewater rivers in our area. It is a dam controlled river with guaranteed flows when other rivers may not be runnable. This learning trip will help you hone your river running and playing skills on the Class 1 & Class 2 rapids of the Middle Yough.
Slippery Rock Creek, or “The Slip” in Northwest PA is a beautiful narrow river running through a small gorge and surrounded by forest. The Slip is a natural flow river so is rain dependent.
The Lower Yough is a solid Class 2 river with several Class 3 rapids. This is a big step up from The Slip and Middle Yough but may be an option for day 2 depending on water levels and the feedback from day one. Paddlers should have some experience in at least Class 1 whitewater.
2 day Whitewater Weekend August 22-23 $250.00. Includes mandatory state park shuttle fee and river usage fee (lower Yough) . Trip does not include food or lodging. We plan to camp at Ohiopyle State Park but there are hotel options nearby as well. Register Now .
